Analysis
NAICS 321991 is the 2022 national industry for manufactured home (mobile home) manufacturing, part of 32199 (All Other Wood Product Manufacturing). Census lists 6 example activities under it in the official index.
County Business Patterns counts 270 US establishments in this code in 2023, employing 27,285 people at an average annual payroll of $53,540 per employee (22nd percentile of national industries). 29% of the establishments have fewer than five employees, which is close to the national mix.
Between 2018 and 2023 the number of establishments grew 14% and employment rose 15%. The 2018 count used NAICS 2017, so part of a large move can come from codes being redefined rather than from businesses opening or closing.
By establishments it ranks 3rd of the 3 codes at this level within All Other Wood Product Manufacturing, with 8% of them.
Its index entries, the activities Census uses to assign businesses to this code, include buildings, mobile, commercial use, manufacturing, houses, prefabricated mobile homes, manufacturing, manufactured (mobile) buildings for commercial use (e.g.… and manufactured (mobile) classrooms manufacturing, among 6 in all.
Its goods appear in 2 statistical lines of the US tariff schedule, mostly under headings 7610 (aluminum structures (excluding prefabricated buildings of…) and 8716 (trailers and semi-trailers; other vehicles, not…). That link is how import data is matched to domestic producers, for example in trade-remedy cases.
