County Business Patterns counts 336 US establishments in this code in 2023, employing 31,743 people at an average annual payroll of $70,790 per employee (53rd percentile of national industries). 24% of the establishments have fewer than five employees, which points to larger operations.

Its index entries, the activities Census uses to assign businesses to this code, include aircraft engine cradles manufacturing, aircraft loading hoists manufacturing, bomb lifts manufacturing and cabs for industrial trucks manufacturing, among 25 in all.

Its goods appear in 23 statistical lines of the US tariff schedule, mostly under headings 8427 (fork-lift trucks; other works trucks fitted with lifting or…), 8709 (works trucks, self-propelled, not fitted with lifting or…) and 8431 (parts suitable for use solely or principally with the…). That link is how import data is matched to domestic producers, for example in trade-remedy cases.

Census lists 3 related activities that belong elsewhere, most often in 33621, 333111 and 333120. Businesses that do several things are classified by their primary activity, the one that generates the most value, so check those boundaries before settling on this code.

For example, manufacturing motor vehicle-type trailers are classified in 33621 (Motor Vehicle Body and Trailer Manufacturing) instead.
